Everyone Recorded It. No One Has the Whole Thing.

One phone is propped at the edge of the stage — clean audio, nothing worth watching. Another is in the third row with a decent camera, a stranger's head blocking the soloist half the time. A third catches two minutes of the encore on the way out. A fourth has forty seconds of the opening number before a phone call cuts it short. At the mixing desk, the sound engineer is quietly running a clean board recording — pristine audio, not one frame of picture. None of them arranged any of this with the others; a hundred more people in that room had a phone out too, with no plan to combine anything either.

Almost all of that footage stays private by default — a thirty-second clip goes to Instagram, the rest sits on a drive, not interesting enough on its own to show anyone. That instinct is correct: a hundred redundant angles published raw would be noise, not an archive. What would actually be worth watching is the thing none of those hundred people could make alone — one real edit, several angles cut together with real transitions, the board's clean audio underneath, assembled after the fact with AI doing part of the cutting. That's not a fan's keepsake. It's a better record of the night than anyone in the room walked away with — including the musician who played it.

None of this is specific to concerts, or to the week after. A play, a public talk, a poetry evening leaves the same scatter behind, and "after the fact" routinely means a decade or two later — a cassette in a drawer, a drive from a computer nobody's turned on since. That's not a hypothetical: one archive being sorted right now holds several thousand video recordings spanning 2001 to 2026, and more than a few of them turn out to be the same moment, caught from different places by people who never planned it that way.

What Digercules already does, on one person's own archive

Figures out what's actually there, groups it by real signal — timestamps, device metadata, GPS, not folder names — transcribes and identifies who's speaking or performing, describes what a photo shows. For every single file — a topic, a language, a document type, key entities, a short summary. This is done ahead of time, without rush or deadline, before anyone urgently needs it — not at the last minute under pressure for a specific task. The finished library can be fed to any neural network, database, or search system — they take it from there, finding what's needed and building the interface; Digercules doesn't replace that next step, it makes it possible in the first place, by taking on the labor-intensive preparation nobody ever has the resources for. That part runs today, on real archives, not as a pitch.

What it doesn't do yet, but could

Recognize that two different people's archives hold the same event. Two recordings of one performance don't just happen to share a date — they transcribe into strikingly similar text, the same songs in the same order, often the same laugh at the same joke from the crowd. Cross-check that against close EXIF timestamps and you're not guessing two people were in the same room — you're reading it straight off what their own archives already say. Finding the match is only half the job; lining the pieces up to the same second is separate work again. Nobody's built either step yet, but the raw material for both — transcripts, timestamps — already falls out of the same processing that sorts one person's own archive today, which makes it a near step, not a distant one, once the people holding the fragments are willing to compare notes.

Why this isn't just "ask an AI"

No general-purpose AI changes that math by being asked more cleverly, however capable it is. There's no shortcut past actually watching, listening to, and comparing thousands of hours of raw material at least once — real processing time, regardless of who or what performs it. What would make the matching and the sync cheap isn't a smarter question; it's having already done that comparison in advance, for every file, so it becomes a lookup instead of a fresh investigation every time someone asks.
